Slow Motion Cinematography
Make a fleeting moment the centre of the story.
Based in Melbourne, I offer slow motion cinematography and high-speed camera hire for productions across Australia, with Phantom VEO 4K and Pixboom Spark packages. From the texture of a pour to the energy of an athlete in motion, high-speed cinematography reveals details that ordinary footage passes by. I bring a cinematographer’s eye and specialist camera experience to create slow motion that serves your idea.
Beautiful images start before the camera rolls
Slow motion needs more than a high frame rate. Lighting, exposure, lens choice and the rhythm of the action all shape the result. I work with your director and production team to choose the right camera, build the lighting approach and time the movement so the final image has both detail and feeling.
Bring me a food or beverage commercial, a beauty or product film, a sports sequence, a music video or a moment that needs a closer look. From my Melbourne base, I work in studios and on location Australia-wide, with camera and crew arrangements tailored to your production.
High-speed cameras available
Two cameras, with different hire options. The Phantom VEO 4K travels with me as cinematographer / data technician. The Pixboom Spark is available for dry hire for your own camera crew to operate.

Phantom VEO 4K hire
Precision for studio, tabletop and motion control
The Phantom VEO4K-990S records up to 1,000 fps at DCI 4K and almost 2,000 fps in 2K. Its 12-bit Cine RAW workflow makes it a strong choice for carefully lit product shots, splashes, beauty and precisely choreographed action.
The Phantom travels with me from Melbourne to productions across Australia as cinematographer / data technician, managing high-speed capture and camera data. Pair it with BOLT motion control when the shot calls for repeatable camera moves and high-speed action.

Pixboom Spark hire
Longer takes for unpredictable action
The compact Spark combines a Super 35 global-shutter sensor with continuous recording to removable media. Robotface’s tested setup captures about 937 fps at DCI 4K, with higher frame rates at cropped resolutions.
A practical option for sport, wildlife, stunts and smaller crews. The Melbourne-based Pixboom Spark is available for dry hire Australia-wide for your own camera crew to operate, with preparation and post-production support arranged as needed. Recording duration depends on settings and media capacity.

Frame rates depend on resolution and camera configuration. Confirm firmware, lens mounts, media, kit inclusions and the required operating support when booking. Lenses, lighting, freight and destination drives are quoted to suit the job.
Choose the camera around the shot
For a controlled tabletop setup or a BOLT move, I would usually start with the Phantom. For an event that is hard to time or repeat, the Spark’s longer recording window can give the action more room. The final choice depends on your lighting, delivery resolution, take length and post-production schedule.
At 1,000 fps, one second of real action stretches to 40 seconds when played at 25 fps. We can also choose lower frame rates for a subtler change of pace, keeping the result appropriate to the story rather than slowing everything down equally.
From the first idea to footage ready for post
We’ll plan the frame rate, lighting, lenses and camera movement before the shoot, then agree how footage will be captured, reviewed and backed up. Phantom Cine RAW opens directly in DaVinci Resolve; the Spark workflow converts PXBC media through PIXBOOM Cine to CinemaDNG before grading.
If your project combines slow motion with robotic camera movement, I can help coordinate the camera and motion-control approach through Robotface. For location work and dry hire, we’ll work through power, media and offloading so your crew has a practical shooting plan.
Slow motion cinematography and camera hire FAQs
Can I hire a slow motion cinematographer in Melbourne or elsewhere in Australia?
Yes. I’m Melbourne-based and work Australia-wide. Book a slow motion cinematography package for a studio or location shoot anywhere in Australia, with camera selection, lighting planning, capture and a footage workflow tailored to your brief.
With the Phantom, I work as cinematographer / data technician and offload footage from the camera after every few shots. For the Pixboom Spark, a full 2.5 TB card takes approximately one hour to offload to a backup SSD, so allow for that time in your shooting schedule.
How much does slow motion camera hire cost?
Request a quote based on your shoot dates, camera choice, hire duration, location and crew requirements. Phantom hire includes me as cinematographer / data technician; Pixboom Spark can be quoted as dry hire. Lenses, lighting, media, freight and travel are quoted to suit the production. Send your brief and delivery format so the package can be scoped accurately.
Can I dry hire a Phantom or Pixboom camera?
The Pixboom Spark is available for dry hire for your own camera crew to operate, with preparation and footage handling support arranged as needed. The Phantom VEO 4K travels with me as cinematographer / data technician to manage capture and camera data. Discuss your crew and production requirements before booking.
What is included in a high-speed camera rental?
The referenced camera kits include the camera body, cage, monitor and PL and EF mount options. The Spark package includes a 2.5 TB Pro Card; the Phantom package includes me as cinematographer / data technician. Lenses, lighting and destination drives are arranged separately. Confirm the final kit and media inclusions in your quote.
Can the cameras travel outside Melbourne?
Yes. Melbourne is my base, and I work on studio and location productions across Australia. The Phantom travels with me as cinematographer / data technician; the Pixboom Spark can be freighted for dry hire for your own camera crew to operate. Freight, my travel and camera availability are confirmed for each booking.
Which camera is better for 4K slow motion?
Phantom VEO 4K is a strong choice for controlled tabletop, product and BOLT motion-control shots, with up to 1,000 fps at DCI 4K. Pixboom Spark suits longer or unpredictable action, with about 937 fps at DCI 4K in Robotface’s tested setup. Choose according to shot timing, lighting, take length and post-production needs rather than frame rate alone.
How long can the cameras record at high frame rates?
Robotface’s Phantom VEO4K-990S records about 5.6 seconds at 4096 × 2160 and 1,000 fps with all 72 GB of RAM allocated to one take. Its Spark test recorded just under nine minutes at 4096 × 2160 and 937 fps on a 2.5 TB Pro Card. Allow roughly five to eight minutes per Spark card for planning; recording time varies with settings and configuration.
Do I need special lighting for slow motion?
High frame rates need more light because each frame has a shorter exposure. At a fixed shutter angle, doubling the frame rate requires roughly one extra stop of light to maintain exposure. Fixtures should also be tested for flicker at the intended frame rate and shutter setting. The lighting plan depends on shot size, lens aperture, diffusion and the desired depth of field.
Production teams are welcome to get in touch for assistance — I’m happy to advise on lighting requirements and help plan a suitable setup for your shoot.
Can I get ProRes files for editing?
The Phantom captures 12-bit Cine RAW, which opens directly in DaVinci Resolve for grading and export. The Spark V1.1.0 setup captures 10-bit PXBC, converted through PIXBOOM Cine to CinemaDNG before grading. ProRes or another editorial format can be planned as a post-production export; confirm conversion time, storage and delivery requirements before the shoot.
